Holiday time was ad hoc charging time

In the summer, a particularly large number of people were on the streets of Austria, including numerous holiday guests from our neighbouring countries. If you need electricity in transit, you don't always have the right charging app or charging card with you. This is also reflected in our data: At the charging points managed by e-vo, the number of ad hoc charging processes in the holiday season increased by around 25 (!) percent. Ad hoc store means: drive to the charging station, charge and pay directly, without registration and without a charging contract.

AFIR creates the framework

The European AFIR Regulation strengthens this easy access to public charging. For publicly accessible recharging points newly installed since 13 April 2024:

  • Under 50 kW charging power, payment can be made, for example, via a secure Internet-based payment such as a QR code.
  • From 50 kW charging power, direct payment via a card reader or a contactless payment solution must be possible. A pure QR code solution is not enough for new charging points.

e-vo has set up payment terminals and direct payment solutions for its customers. They allow e-car drivers to easily pay with credit or debit cards at suitably equipped locations.

Good to know for 2027

From 1 January 2027, publicly accessible recharging points of 50 kW and above, already installed before 13 April 2024 and located along the TEN-T road network or in secure parking areas, shall enable card payment or contactless payment.
With e-vo at your side, you are also well prepared for this.
